Nuragic complex La Prisgiona

In the second millennium BC Sardinia was the cradle of the Nuragic civilization. This culture is unique in the world, had as a fundamental characteristic the use of stone buildings in the shape of a truncated cone, called Nuraghe. Some of these towers rise up to 30 meters in hight, ranking the Nuraghe as the largest prehistoric megalithic structures in Europe.

In Sardinia there are about 7000 nuraghis, and studies suggests that at the time of their use there were many more. Their real use is still under discussion and study, but it is certain that around them villages and settlements developed.

The Nuraghe The Prisgiona, situated in the Capichera locality, near Arzachena, is without doubt one of the most important sites in Sardinia. It consists of a central tower and two flanking towers. The entrance to the central tower is characterized by a huge lintel of 3.20 m. The towers are protected by a surrounding wall, behind which there is also a well, still functioning today, and a meeting hut, where the most important people of the village gathered. Outside of the walls, there are about 90 huts, separated by paved walkways.
